Source Code

KOTT's Assetto Corsa server plugin is free software, licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. If you have raced on a KOTT server, you are entitled to its source. Ask and we will send it to you, at no charge.

Repositories

  • KOTT plugin — the plugin that runs inside AssettoServer, and the in-game HUD it serves to your client. Request it here and we will send you the Corresponding Source for the build you raced against, free of charge. A public repository is coming; until it is up, asking is the way, and asking is enough.
  • AssettoServer (our fork) — the game server itself, as we run it: branch kott-fork, tag v0.0.55-pre35-kott.3. Three commits over upstream v0.0.55-pre35: plugin config parsing tolerates unknown keys; AI traffic prefers KOTT's delivered road-network spline when one exists; and hidden AI-traffic slots are left out of the HTTP server-info endpoints. Each is described in the repository's NOTICE.
  • AssettoServer (upstream) — the original project by compujuckel and Niewiarowski, without which KOTT would not exist.

Tell us roughly when you raced and we will identify the build for you — every release is recorded with its hash, so there is no ambiguity about which one you connected to.

What is covered, and what isn't

The AGPL covers the program you interact with when you connect to our servers: the AssettoServer process and the KOTT plugin loaded into it. That is what we publish, in full — the race loop, finish detection, the game modes, timing, off-track and teleport detection, and the HUD.

KOTT's central web service is a separate program. The plugin talks to it over HTTP; it contains no AssettoServer code and is not linked into it, so it is not a covered work and is not published. That boundary is not a licensing manoeuvre — race results have been judged centrally, from the raw position trace rather than from anything the plugin claims, since long before this page existed. The trust boundary and the licence boundary happen to be the same line.

This is our good-faith reading of the licence rather than a legal opinion. If you think something we run should be published and isn't, please tell us — we would rather fix it than argue about it.

Running your own

You may build, modify and run the plugin — that is what the licence is for. Note that section 13 then applies to you as well: if you run a modified version and players connect to it over a network, you owe them your source on the same terms.

If you want to run KOTT for your own community rather than fork it, we would rather help. Get in touch and we will set you up with a bundle and a key.

Credits

AssettoServer is by compujuckel and Niewiarowski, and is the foundation everything here is built on — the AI traffic, the CSP client-message plumbing our HUD depends on, and a plugin API that made KOTT possible in the first place. If you run an Assetto Corsa server, please support their work.
